Parkside San Mateo Homes and Neighborhood Guide

San Mateo neighborhood guide

Parkside sits on the east side of San Mateo along Marina Lagoon, the former Seal Slough. The lagoon was diked and dredged in the early 1950s as a flood control basin and recreation area, and today it winds about four and a half miles through San Mateo and into Foster City. In the Parkside stretch, single family homes line its southern and western banks. The city uses the lagoon for sailing, rowing, swimming and power boating.

Parkside Aquatic Park on the lagoon has a sandy swimming beach, picnic tables, a play area and boating. Bayside Joinville Park on Kehoe Avenue adds a public pool, tennis and pickleball courts, ball fields and a dog park. Parkside Montessori, a district school, is in the neighborhood, and Bridgepointe shopping is just across the lagoon. Highway 92 runs along the south edge.
