Beresford Park San Mateo Homes and Neighborhood Guide

San Mateo neighborhood guide

This neighborhood takes its name from Beresford Park, one of San Mateo's larger parks, at 2720 Alameda de las Pulgas. The park has a recreation center, tennis and basketball courts, bocce courts, a skate area, a ball field, a playground, picnic tables and a picnic shelter. It is one of the busiest gathering spots in this part of the city.

The Beresford name dates to the area's early days. David Bohannon bought roughly 848 acres of the Beresford area in 1939 and 1940 and developed it into what became Hillsdale. Today the Beresford Hillsdale Neighborhood Association covers the area from El Camino Real to the Alameda, between 28th Avenue and the Belmont border, plus some streets west of the Alameda.
