North Fair Oaks Redwood City Homes and Neighborhood Guide

Redwood City neighborhood guideUnincorporated San Mateo County

North Fair Oaks is unincorporated San Mateo County, and much of it carries a Redwood City mailing address. Local services come from the county Board of Supervisors and county departments, with input from the North Fair Oaks Community Council, rather than from a city hall. The area covers about 1.2 square miles between Redwood City, Atherton and Menlo Park. It was left unincorporated in 1923, when neighboring Fair Oaks incorporated separately as the town of Atherton.

Middlefield Road is the community's main street, lined with taquerias, bakeries, markets and small shops, and the county has planned and funded sidewalk, crossing and bike lane improvements along it. The Fair Oaks branch library and Fair Oaks Community Center share a site on Middlefield. The North Fair Oaks Festival is a popular summer event, and a Hetch Hetchy aqueduct corridor crosses the street grid on a diagonal.
