Redwood Shores Redwood City Homes and Neighborhood Guide

Redwood City neighborhood guide

Redwood Shores is a planned community on the bay side of Highway 101, built from the 1960s on land that was once Leslie Salt evaporation ponds. It is part of Redwood City, but Bair Island and Steinberger Slough separate it from the rest of town, so the drive to downtown passes through San Carlos or Belmont. Leslie Properties proposed the planned community in 1963, and the first homes went up in the mid 1960s after the ponds were filled.

Today the Shores mixes homes with offices, hotels, shops and parks. Oracle's campus sits on the former site of Marine World, which opened in 1968 and closed here in 1985 before reopening in Vallejo. Electronic Arts is headquartered here too. The Redwood Shores Library opened in 2008 with an environmental interpretive center and a deck over Belmont Slough, and the Bay Trail circles much of the neighborhood along the sloughs.
