Ryan Tract Hillsborough Homes and Neighborhood Guide

Hillsborough neighborhood guide

Ryan Tract covers the flats around Hillsborough Town Hall, off Floribunda Avenue at the northeast edge of town. It is one of the few parts of Hillsborough where the land is mostly level, and it sits right against Burlingame. For many homes, Burlingame Avenue's shops and restaurants and the Burlingame Caltrain station are within walking distance. Streets are lined with mature trees and have the open, unhurried look the town was founded to keep. Hillsborough's original 1910 charter banned sidewalks, streetlights and businesses.

Town Hall has its own story. The building at 1600 Floribunda opened in 1917 as a telephone exchange with a Burlingame address, because businesses were not allowed in Hillsborough. After the exchange moved to Burlingame Avenue in 1926, the building was remodeled into Town Hall. Nearby at El Camino Real and Floribunda, small Centennial Park has a garden of native, low water plants. Larger parks, including Washington Park, are a short trip into Burlingame.
