Brewer Subdivision Hillsborough Homes and Neighborhood Guide

Hillsborough neighborhood guide

The Brewer Subdivision covers the lower south flats of Hillsborough around Uplands Drive and Rockridge Road. It is close to Crystal Springs Uplands School, a private school whose upper campus occupies the Uplands mansion at 400 Uplands Drive. Nearby lanes hold storybook style homes, and the gentler terrain makes this one of the easier corners of town to walk. San Mateo's neighborhoods and shops are just to the east.

The Uplands mansion was built for Templeton Crocker between 1911 and 1917. Willis Polk designed it as a Renaissance palazzo, and it is considered the first Beaux Arts mansion in Hillsborough. Jennie Crocker Henderson donated it to the trustees of the Crystal Springs School for Girls in 1956, when the estate had been subdivided down to about 10 acres. The campus is private, but the house remains a local landmark.
