Burlingame Terrace Homes and Neighborhood Guide

Burlingame neighborhood guide

Burlingame Terrace was surveyed and laid out in October 1905, in the area between Oak Grove Avenue, Broadway, El Camino Real and California Drive. The original subdivision ended at Edgehill Drive. Developers Archibald and Smith marketed it as "The Best of Them All," and early sales rules kept stores, saloons and laundries out of the tract so it would stay residential.

The neighborhood filled in quickly after the 1906 earthquake, as people moved south from San Francisco along the rail and electric car lines. Today it sits between the city's two shopping districts, with the Broadway shops to the north and Burlingame Avenue to the south. McKinley Elementary is on Paloma Avenue, and Paloma Playground at Paloma and Edgehill offers a small neighborhood play space.
