Mount Carmel Redwood City Homes and Neighborhood Guide
Redwood City neighborhood guide
Mount Carmel is a roughly square neighborhood of just over half a square mile, bounded by Whipple Avenue, Myrtle Street, Jefferson Avenue and El Camino Real, with Grand Street running through the middle. Sequoia High School, founded in 1895 as the only high school on the Peninsula between Santa Clara and San Francisco, moved to its campus here in 1924. Its main building and the auditorium now called Carrington Hall date from that move.
Stafford Park on Hopkins Avenue is the neighborhood's gathering spot, with a playground, a big lawn, picnic tables and the summer Music in the Park concerts. McKinley Institute of Technology and North Star Academy share a campus on Duane Street, and the Arroyo Ojo de Agua creek runs year round through the southeast corner.
